IPv4 Exhaustion is Real

There are only 4.3 billion IPv4 addresses in existence — and they ran out. IANA exhausted its pool in 2011. APNIC (Asia-Pacific) followed shortly after. Today, every new IPv4 address must be transferred from an existing holder, creating a thriving secondary market.

For Indian businesses — ISPs, cloud providers, data centres, gaming companies, CDNs, and large enterprises — acquiring IPv4 space is now a procurement and compliance challenge that requires a specialist broker.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, completely legal. IPv4 addresses are a transferable resource. The Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) like APNIC have formal transfer policies that govern the legal sale and lease of IP address blocks. Ogma handles all registry compliance, documentation, and INR invoicing.

The minimum transferable block is a /24 (256 IP addresses). Most RIRs will not process transfers smaller than /24. We typically work with /24, /23, /22, /21, /20, /19, /18, /16, and larger blocks depending on your requirement.

Yes, inter-RIR transfers are possible in most cases. An Indian company can acquire ARIN-registered space and transfer it to APNIC (and vice versa), subject to both registries' inter-RIR transfer policies. Ogma has experience navigating cross-regional transfers and handles all the documentation.

IPv6 adoption is growing but much of the global internet — including many enterprise networks, legacy devices, and ISP infrastructure — still depends on IPv4. Dual-stack operation is the norm, meaning businesses need both. IPv4 demand remains strong and prices continue to appreciate year-on-year.
